Poutine Plus

Poutine: large "Tree hugger": caramelized onions, mushrooms and roasted garlic oil, with vegetarian gravy. (J) The sweet onions with the poutine confused my taste buds. The gravy left a vegetable soup powder aftertaste that wasn't bad. (S) I liked the sweet onions in the poutine, not confusing at all. Squeeky cheese is the best!

Hot Dog: Nathan's hot dog. (J) Juicy and meaty. (S) Pretty darn good.

Gal Sushi

CL7: lunch combo. (J) I got the lucky cat cup again. I didn't expect that this would fill me up, but the teriyaki salmon was very filling.

CL8: lunch combo. (S) I always like the salad dressing from this restaurant. The sashimi was really good, and so were the glass noodles. Yumm, so filling!

Toko Sushi

RedFlagDeals Deal of the Day

Miso Soup & Green Salad: (J) Soup was nice and hot. Salad had good orange dressing.

Chicken Udon: (J) big, filling bowl. (S) The soup looked clean, and the chicken kinda tasted like nothing, lol.

Tempura Appetizer, Edamame & Glass Noodles: (J) Tempura was hot and fresh. We didn't even touch the glass noodles and brought them home because we had too much food. (S) I could have had more edamame. The glass noodles tasted very salty.

3 Yellow Plates: cucumber and avocado rolls, rice-filled tofu, and egg sushi. (J) Tofu and egg were nice and sweet. (S) I liked the sweets.

2 Green Plates: cucumber rolls topped with shrimp or imitation crab. (S) The mayo was interesting.

2 Red Plates: spicy salmon and salmon rolls. (J) Rolls got better at the red plate level. I liked the spicy rolls with crispy bits on top. (S) Spicy was ok, I liked the flakey more.

1 Blue Plate: tempura shrimp rolls topped with eel and fish eggs. (J) Tempura was soft. Looked like the turnover rate for blue plates wasn't too high. (S) Eel was nice and I liked the fish eggs.

Desserts: green tea mochi (left); tempura ice cream (right): fried dough ball filled with green tea ice cream, served with chocolate sauce, cream, cantaloupe and lemon slices. (J) Mochi was semi-frozen yet chewy, and had a very good flavour. The tempura ice cream plate was a very odd combination, but I enjoyed it a lot. (S) Although the tempura ice cream looks much more exciting, I really liked the mochi because of its texture and taste. The tempura ice cream got pretty messy in the end, and I wasn't a big fan of the lemon/green tea ice cream.

100% Korean

Side Dishes: peanuts, kimchi, pickled radish, bean sprouts, seaweed and salty fish things. (J) We ate everything except the salty fish. (S) It took a while to come, our mains came out shortly after the side dishes got to us. I liked all of them tho...yumm!

Dolsot Bibimbap: vegetables, beef and egg on rice. (S) I really like the purple rice and how it's not tasteless like others. Adding peanuts (from side dish) gave it a nice crunch.

Gamjatang: spicy pork bone soup. (J) My bowl had a lot of bones without meat. Good spicy broth.

Wild Earth Bakery and Cafe

Brownie: gluten free. (J) I liked that it wasn't too sweet, and that it was a little dense. (S) Yummy sweets! I couldn't decide which one to get, but this one looked so good so we had to try it!

Chippy's Fish and Chips

Haddock: with chips and mushy peas. (J) I liked how everything was prepared and cooked to order. Peas were peppery. (S) The fish was pretty good; I liked the batter. Had to pack the fries home cuz we were stuffed. Only down side was that they didn't have the more expensive stuff, like the halibut and scallops.

Prawns: with chips, tartar sauce and coleslaw. (J) The prawns were huge and piping hot! So many chips underneath. (S) I really liked the prawns even tho I'm not supposed to eat them. Sooo tasty, yumm!

Tastes of the Hill

Crab (lobster?) tart from Jack Astor's; cheesecake from Costco; chowder in a bread bowl; pasta with veal.

Fried calamari and spring roll; chicken and corn from Nando's; honey garlic wings from Wild Wing; kettle corn.

Pasta with rose sauce & corn and cranberry salad; butter tart from LaRocca; California rolls from Tomo; white brownie & honey steak from Moxie's.

Mushrooms from Moxie's; assorted Thai food; wing in butter sauce & corn and cheese on flat bread from Turtle Jack's; nachos from Lonestar.

Middle Eastern foods; fish & rice from Longos; strawberry and cookies & cream gelato; cheese & tomato kabob, salami & cheese, and smoked salmon & spinach dip on bread.

Persian spinach on rice from Friend's Restaurant.

(J) You pay $15 and get a card with many restaurant names on it. You then go around to each booth and get your card checked off and receive food! Some portions were bigger than others. I enjoyed the variety. My favourites were Nando's chicken and the strawberry gelato. They also had coupons for free appetizers and discounts!
(S) $15 is so worth the variety of food you get. I really liked the white brownie from Moxie's, the chowder in bread bowl, and Nando's...wow, the chicken portion was big! And so juicy!

Keung's Delight

Chicken Congee: (S) This was all right, nothing too fancy.

Fried Noodles: (J) Burnt to perfection. (S) The crispies were goooood

Vegetables: (J) Need to have some veggies to go with all the carbos. (S) Fibre&Garlic-licious!

Fried Rice: with broccoli. (S) More greens! Yumm! The rice was ok-lah.

Fried Milk: (J) I've never had this before and I really enjoyed it. (S) I don't think I've ever had this before either...the sugar on the fried milk made it so yummy!

Man Doo Hyang

Appetizer: dumplings/wontons. (J) Haven't had these as an appetizer before. A good warm up for things to come. (S) Complimentary dumplings are always nice.

Deep Fried Dumplings: beef and beef & kimchi. (J) Apparently you have to pre-order these because they sell out really fast. Outside was crispy, and filling was big and meaty. (S) You don't know which ones are spicy; they're mixed together. I had to open them up to see which ones had the red flecks (spicy) and which ones didn't. They (the non-spicy ones) were so good tho!

Noodle Soup: with dumplings. (J) Nice big bowl. I liked the chewy noodles and starchy broth. You only got three dumplings, but they were huge like the fried ones. (S) The noodles were cooked really well. I liked my beef dumplings, yumm!
