Big Papa Marketta

Location: 2982 Bloor St. W.
Phone: (416) 207-1888
Website: http://www.bigpapa.ca

Complimentary bread: with whipped butter, ice tea and water. (J) I like how they had my name on the table to reserve it.

Bruschetta (left) and Mista (right): baby greens mixed with red wine vinegar and organic olive oil. (S) Vinegar was too strong for my liking. Bruschetta was good though!

Risotto California: chicken, mushroom, sundried tomato & parmigiano white wine rose sauce. (J) Looks like a big pile of mush, but it had really good cheese and tomato flavours. (S) OMG, sooooo good, I'd go back for more of this.

Linguine Frutti Dimare: mussels, calamari, tiger shrimps in zesty tomato sauce. (J) Lots of seafood! I think a seafood risotto would be the perfect combination. (S) I liked the Risotto better :P

Tiramisu: homemade with mascarpone whipped cream, espresso and amaretto. (J) Nice and light. Goes down easy. (S) Agreed, even with bursting stomachs.

Medieval Times

Location: 10 Dufferin St., Exhibition Place Toronto, ON M6K 3C3
Website: http://www.medievaltimes.com

Garlic Bread and Tomato Bisque: (S) It was fun eating without utensils. Our wench was very nice, she refilled our Medieval Pepsi. (J) I liked the garlic bread and vegetable soup. Medieval Pepsi cracks me up.

Roasted Chicken: (S) OMG, so much chicken...but fall-off-the-bone, tender chicken...and squirty, moist meat. (J) The chicken breast was really filling, but dry. I could have used some medieval gravy.

Spare Rib and Herb-Roasted Potato: (S) Sorry about the messy bones in the bg, tried to exclude that but oh well. Again, ribs were fall-off-the-bone good (with fatty softness) and the potatoes were nice and crispy outside, soft inside. Yumm! I needed a side of more veggies with this meal, there was so much meat!

Pastry of the Castle (Apple pie): (S) I like apples. (J) This had nice big sugar crystals on the outside. Would have gone well with tea, but I ate it too fast.

Udon: 2 shrimp tempuras, 2 slices of fish cakes, bonito flakes, green onions

(S) The udon was pretty good, just add shoyu! Movie was pretty entertaining, although long (2 hrs). It made me want to try lots of Udon, I'll bring a bowl and chopsticks, or if hardcore, eat out of plastic bags lol. Go Captain Udon!

Walnut Cake (Hodo Kwaja)

Location: 656 Bloor Street West Toronto, ON
Phone: (416) 538-1208

Walnut Cakes: red bean with walnut, and mashed potato with walnut or almond. (S) Yumm...I like walnut cakes. We got assorted, so it was a surprise which filling we got each time, although it seemed like the lady gave us more red bean than the other 2 types of potato.

Tacos El Asador‎

Location: 690 Bloor Street West Toronto, ON M6G 1L2
Phone: (416) 538-9747

Combo 1: beef taco, chicken enchilada and pop.

Combo 2: beef burrito, chicken quesadilla, salad and pop. Background: salsa and onion/cilantro/pepper toppings.

(J) The enchilada and burrito were the best. The salsa was nice and spicy; I couldn't taste the jalapeƱos afterwards. I think I'm getting used to eating cilantro with mexican food.(S) I agree, except cilantro. Ew.

Bento Box Special: Chicken & Salmon Teriyaki, 2 Pieces of Shrimp Tempura & Various Vegetable Tempura, 3 Pieces of Gyoza, 3 Pieces of Each: Cucumber Rolls, Salmon Rolls & Salmon Sashimi; Miso Soup, Green Salad & Rice.

Sushi, Sashimi & Maki Special (14pcs): 2 Pieces of Each: Tuna & Salmon Sushi, Tuna & Salmon Sashimi; 6 Pieces of Spicy Tuna/Spicy Salmon Rolls, Miso Soup & Green Salad.

(J) These dinner specials were so big and filling, and together they only cost a few dollars more than the party tray from the night before. They even threw in a couple of extra pieces of sashimi with each dinner.
(S) This place was good! The only complaint that I have is that the shrimp tempura had such a long and thick layer of batter, made the shrimp look bigger than it actually was (it was half the size). But it tasted good anyways.

(J) Maybe because we were hungry, but this platter hardly satisfied.
(S) It was so puny, and the soya sauce was so salty, made me so thirsty and dry.

Jodhpore Club Indian Restaurant

Location: 33 Baldwin Street, Toronto, ON M5T 1L1
Phone: (416) 598-2502

Vegetable samosas: came with chickpeas and some red sauce. (S) I liked the samosas.

Lamb vindaloo and tandoori naan: (S) Hoollly f, this was spicy. The heat + spice = pain receptors overload. Who in their right mind would put their mouths through such horrible fire. (J) It was OK at first because I was hungry, but after a few mouthfuls my mouth was on fire!

Lamb biryani: mild.

Ackee Tree

Location: 170 Spadina Avenue, Toronto, ON M5T 2C2‎
Phone: (416) 866-8730‎

Jerk fries: side dish. (J) The taste got lost with the other spicy dishes. I should have ordered the sweet potato fries. (S) Initial reaction: ok, this is spicy, not too too bad though.

Jerk chicken: medium size. (J) Same good stuff as last time, but the coleslaw was more fresh. (S) Initial reaction: HOLY, this is SPICY! I was sweating buckets! But damn, the meat just falls off the bone, and coleslaw so refreshing.

Roti: curry goat in dahl pourri roti. (J) The roti was huge and filled with tender goat. (S) Initial reaction: Is this supposed to be spicy? My tongue was already burning from the Jerk Chicken, so the roti tasted sweet to me. I enjoyed the goat roti a lot, it cooled my mouth down.

Vermicelli: bbq pork, sausages and eggrolls. (J) I could eat this dish all day.

Honey Buns wings: honey garlic & teriyaki. Served with fries and chocolate milk. (S) I like how meat is not wasted unlike other places. Yumm...fall off the bone wings.

Honey Jerk wings: honey garlic & caribbean jerk. (J) Weird initial taste, but delicious honey garlic took over in the end. It didn't deserve the 4 pepper rating, I'd give it 1/2 or 1 pepper max.
